To the Rescue: Stress Management Tips for Moms

stress

Being a mom is not an easy job.  Reveling in the joy of motherhood can be difficult when you are juggling your responsibilities as a mom along with other duties such as work, parenting other children, finding time for your spouse, household responsibilities, and self-care.

It is vital to find ways to manage and lessen the levels of “mom” stress so that you can enjoy the fun, love, and enjoyment of being a mom.

When the Body Is Stressed

Stress is detrimental to your health, no matter what lens you view it through. Prolonged periods of stress can be the cause of physical and mental conditions such as depression, weight gain or weight loss, insomnia, migraines, anxiety, and a weakened immune system.

Tips to Manage Stress

1. Seeing the world through your children’s eyes

Experiencing things from a fresh perspective can help you to enjoy the world around you. Kids can supply you with numerous opportunities to take joy in the daily activities you might take for granted.  Try making it a game with kids by setting a five-minute timer to see how much clean-up everyone can manage together.  Ready-set-go.

2. Remember to relax

Moms are always on the go.  When was the last time you considered taking a 20-minute break just so that you could relax your mind?  Take a quick walk, meditate, do some deep breathing, pop on some headphones and listen to fav music or a podcast, enjoy a cup of tea, drink a tall cool glass of water, stretch, or read.  The activity can be anything that you can do in 15-20 minutes that slows you down and allows you to hit your reset button.

3.  Talk and share with other moms

Meeting fellow moms and sharing your stressful experiences is a great way to relieve stress. It is human nature to feel better about everything when you know you’re not alone, which increases your positive outlook and helps you cope with stress much better.

4Move your body

There is plenty of research that shows how physical exercise is crucial in stress management. Not only does exercise possess mood-lifting properties that give your mind a much-needed boost, and it also works wonders for anxiety. Want an at-home option? Try some resistance band workouts.

5.  Catch more Zzzs

Once you become a mom, sleep becomes a precious commodity. Our bodies have a natural repair mechanism that includes the regulation of stress hormones. This repair and restoration period occurs when we’re at rest.  So as best you can, get ample sleep, even if it means sleeping when the kids do. Try some calming lavender pillow mist.

6.  Say “No,” More Often

People pleasing can be fulfilling, but when you have a full plate, learn to say “no” without feeling guilty.  You are doing yourself a big disservice by trying to do it all.  Bow out gracefully when you feel yourself hesitating at all and be purposeful with who and what you do say “yes” to.

How Chiropractic Care Can Help Our Moms With Their Self-Care Routine

Getting regular chiropractic adjustments directly optimizes your nervous system, which then promotes higher-quality sleep, mood, and energy levels.  That is a trifecta of self-care that moms, especially new moms, could get behind.

Schedule a visit with Dr. Lydia or Dr. Bethanie for chiropractic care and get your body in alignment. It will thank you.
