What is CranioSacral Therapy (CST)?

CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle, non-invasive, low-force, subtle hands-on healing modality focusing on the wave-like rhythmic pulse occurring throughout the entire body

CST helps to release connective tissue restrictions along the spine and cranial areas, allowing the nervous system to bring nutrients in and allow toxins to move out. It also promotes the movement of fluids in and around the central nervous system to enhance the body’s natural healing abilities.

How Does CranioSacral Therapy Work?

The Founder of modern CST, osteopath Dr. John Upledger, said that CranioSacral Therapy works with our various bodily systems’ natural and unique rhythms.

The craniosacral system, which consists of the membranes and fluids surrounding the brain and spinal cord, has a nearly undetectable but palpable rhythm.  The pulses come from the slight narrowing and widening of the skull and the lengthening and shortening of the spine.  These subtle movements, occurring 6-12 times per minute, are carried out to properly circulate cerebrospinal fluid.  A trained practitioner can feel this faint movement through extremely light touch.

CST Is Beneficial For Your CNS

A well-nourished central nervous system (CNS) with all its structures in balance will function optimally.  An unbalanced central nervous system increases the chance of developing pain and illness.

CST, in action, is a light massage along the skull bones and spine and their many connections, pressing the fluids and tilting the head until the rhythm loses any stagnant areas and regains balance.  It can also guide the flow of cerebrospinal fluid into proper circulation.

Who Is CranioSacral Therapy For?

Though it is worth trying out for any discomfort originating from the head down through your hip and sacrum, CranioSacral Therapy has been shown to be most effective for the following diagnoses or conditions:
